Durham, Maine – Defending Amsoil Nelcar Touring Series champion Evan Beaulieu, 19, and series veteran Shaun Buffington swapped the lead several times as they sliced through slower cars and put on a furious duel for the victory in Sunday’s series event on the road course at New Hampshire International Speedway before Beaulieu slid across the line first.
For Beaulieu, this win was one that was definitely on his bucket list.
“That was definitely a workout,”the excited teenager said with a smile after the race. “It is such an incredible feeling to say you’ve won anything at NHIS. I have been watching NASCAR Sprint Cup races here since I was five years old. My father a big part in getting the Legends cars here to begin with. We tried so hard last year to win a race here but just didn’t get it done. We worked all winter to figure out a way to be standing in victory lane at the end of this race. Shaun and I both gave it all we had. He ran me clean and that means a lot.”
Evan is now third in Nelcar Series points, just 7 points behind leader Reid Lampher. “As much as I’d love to be a two-time Nelcar champion,” Evan said. “This win right here is just as special. We were dodging cones, other cars and Lord knows what else out there. Thanks to my team and my sponsors Hancock Lumber and Beaulieu Construction, they do alot for me and I appreciate all of it.”
