Durham, Maine – Defending Amsoil Nelcar Touring Series champion Evan Beaulieu, 19, started 9th over the weekend in the 2012 series season opener at Unity Raceway in Maine and walked away with a sixth place finish.
The driver of the No. 56 Hancock Lumber Legends car said the track was definitely a challenge.
“They call this place Maine’s toughest oval and they’re not kidding. This place is rough,” Evan said after the race. “We had a terrible draw for our starting positionin the heat and that set us back a bit right away. We managed a fifth place in the heat and started ninth in the feature. We actually started off pretty well in the feature but then our car got really loose and we just couldn’t pass on the bottom after that. We battled to sixth place, barely beating Steve Fox in the 88 to the line. It was a decent start for us with our new Coupe chassis.”
The next race for Evan will be this Saturday as he takes on the road course at New Hampshire International Speedway. “I really want to win on the road course,” the racer said. “We got second there in last year’s season finale and I’ve been working hard on Iracing and also talking with other competitors to figure out what I need to do in order to improve. I’m looking forward to getting to NHIS and I’m thankful to my team and my sponsors for all of their hard work to get us back on track this year!”
