Hermon, Maine – For 19-year-old racer Evan Beaulieu, the last month could be a glass half-empty because he has come up just one spot short of a win in his last four races. Even prefers to call it a glass half-full, as he realizes that if he just keeps running how he is the wins will come.
His latest second place finish came at the Dysart’s Northeast Legends Showdown at Speedway 95 in Hermon, Maine this past weekend. He won his heat race going away and started pole position for the feature but that wasn’t necessarily the best place to begin the race according to Evan.
“The outside groove is definitely the preferred groove on starts,” Evan said. “Matt Bourgoine was starting next to me and he got around me on the start. We hung tight with him and I feel like we had the better car but we couldn’t get enough grip on the bottom to make the pass. It was a good race and I’m encouraged with the way we’ve been running lately.”
The “where” comes after a week off for Evan before he heads for Beech Ridge Speedway for round one of their Thursday Night Thunder Series. He is the defending champion of that series and he says it’s his favorite track. “I love that place,” Even smiles. “I think we’ll have a good chance of getting back to victory lane again.”
Racing starts at 7pm Thursday night. Tickets are just $4 and pit passes are only $8 so if you’re in the area come out and cheer on Evan and the Hancock Lumber No. 56 team.
